Our campus is an oasis in a big city, close to everything you need to learn, live, teach, and work.

    • AU offers online options as well as flexible evening and summer courses to accommodate working students.
    • AU works every day to achieve our vision of an antiracist and equity-driven community where students get the support they need to succeed.
    • AU maintains numerous partnerships throughout DC’s public and private sector to provide experiential learning opportunities.
    • Our grad classes are small so faculty know their students by name.

The School of Education's location in Washington DC is just fantastic. We're a little on the outskirts of the main city, but you're able to take a bus, train and hop right in. There's so much going on around there. School of Education has connections with DC schools. We're also part of the DC Consortium, which is a really nice way to connect to other Learning Institutes in the DC area. Being in DC means there's a lot of different opportunities.

You have access to professors who have done a tremendous amount of research-- have a lot of contacts. And if there's something you're interested in, they probably know somebody who is working in it firsthand.

Some people come in looking for those jobs, looking for those internships, looking for those organizations and DC has so many of them.

From an international education perspective, we're at the center, the hub of a lot of international organizations that work not just in the US, but also abroad. If you're interested in social justice, DC is a really interesting place for that. It’s really an important place for that.

Whether you're an educational policy, whether you want to be an ed leader, the great part about it, is that we're in DC, you can't be in a better place that to implement policy.

There's so much to do in DC, just engaging, nightlife for those looking for that.

It's a fun city in terms of theater and, music, and restaurants. With my children, it's been great in terms of taking them to all the museums and the zoo and, you know, they know all of the memorials.

It's beautiful-- And of course, everyone always talks about DC's cherry blossoms. That's something that's a must-see if you end up down here because that is gorgeous. There's a lot for a student that comes here to really be able to enjoy and take advantage of this area.
